The original creators behind the well-known frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has announced that parent company Unilever stopped the introduction for an innovative Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, that established the company alongside his partner, announced how he will personally create this new product as part of a personal collection highlighting issues the company has been barred from addressing publicly.

Ongoing Conflict Between Creators versus Corporate Owner

This latest development intensifies the continuing disagreement among the internationally recognized dessert company and Unilever, the British consumer goods giant that acquired Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

The co-founders have asserted that Unilever and their ice cream division Magnum improperly prevented their company against "honouring its social mission".

Watermelon Flavor as an Emblem for Solidarity

The entrepreneur revealed via an Instagram video that he's developing a new watermelon-based sorbet, requesting public suggestions for naming options plus additional components.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen stated in his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-based frozen dessert that calls for permanent peace for Palestinians and calls for repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

The watermelon has emerged as an emblem of support for Palestinians because of its colors, which match those of Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Previous Social Engagement and Recent Changes

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of its products in areas occupied by Israel, leading to the parent company transferring the Israeli operation over to an Israeli distributor, thereby permitting ongoing distribution within the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming dessert series is being created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious dessert company which was first created in 2016 for endorsing former political contender Bernie Sanders via the product "Bernie's Return".

Management Changes plus Future Intentions

Mr. Cohen revealed how he will develop additional ice cream flavors focusing on concerns that Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking about openly by Unilever.

This development follows partner Jerry Greenfield stepped down his position at the company recently, following decades with the organization, mentioning worries regarding how its independence was undermined after corporate moves to curb their advocacy work.

Previously, Ben Cohen stated how “My partner has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience leads me to continue to work within the organization to fight for its independence so that it can fulfill its ethical purpose, the values which established its foundation while upholding for over 40 years," he told media outlets.
