The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling “six seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The craze became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Each year, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
