The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
