Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Wins Consecutive WTA Top Player Awards.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight season.
The twenty-seven-year-old secured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – which included retaining the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship.
A Season of High Performance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka played in a tour-best nine finals, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the entire year as the world number one, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.
This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Record-Breaking Numbers
Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a 63-12 match record, and earned a record £11m in tournament winnings.
She earned nearly 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a new level".
Other WTA Award Honorees
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking a 13-month break after the birth of her first child and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko picked up the award after starting the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after capturing their second Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after making five finals.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz won three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third time.
